A Very Brief History
---My love affair with Culebra
began twelve years ago, when I accepted an invitation to join two college friends
and their wives in the Punta Aloe section of Culebra. This became an annual rite.
And every year the desire to have our own place in Culebra grew. In 1996 we took
the plunge---Casa Culebra was born, completed in 1997. |
A Room with a View
In Culebra, two elements are all-important: a spectacular
view and cooling breezes. Casa Culebra has both. The house rests on a hillside
overlooking a huge bay, Ensenada Honda. Sitting on the decks of Casa Culebra is
a bit like flying because you hang up above the bay, eye to eye with soaring
frigate birds, yet close enough to be lulled by the lapping waves. Most of the year,
I live on an island off the coast of Maine. I love winters there, but there's
something about lying in a hammock on the decks of Casa Culebra, reading, listening
to the water and the clacking of palm fronds, and feeling the wonderful breezes of
Culebra that makes for a sinfully relaxing break. I usually feel a twinge of guilt
when I think of my friends back in Maine, but it passes as I sigh deeper into my
hammock.... |
